Please join us in making February 4, 2015, the first annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world, grades Pre-K to 6 or ages 1-12.
I'm going to this. Anyone want to come?
"We welcome elementary school teachers to sign up for a free, high-quality professional development workshop led by Code.org K-5 Facilitators, who are experienced computer science educators. Workshops last 6-7 hours and will prepare you to teach the Code Studio courses for grades K-5. Attendees will also receive free classroom supplies to teach the course."
Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman Director) visited the Bat Zone at Cranbrook Institute of Science. He and his family were introduced to the amazing array of animals and educated about the importance of bats and need for conservation action.
I was thinking maybe do a bat unit the week of Halloween, sort of like how we talk about turtles. That week's objective is main idea in informational text.
I think this is where we got our reading practice pages for the APTT meeting last year. I didn't realize they had a spelling curriculum that goes alone with the reading stories. The lists have mix of sight words, phonics rules and vocab words, plus dictation sentences for each week. I'm using this for 5th grade, just thought I'd pass it on.
I watched a webinar with Bill Ferriter and his students a few weeks ago. They talked about how they've been using Kiva.org for class project for a few years now. It was totally amazing. You can't watch the webinar without paying now, but he linked to all his resources here. I would be up for doing this as 3rd/5th collaboration if anyone's interested!
I saw that you had commented on twitter and watched most of it! Shoot, I didn't know you'd have to pay later. I would love to do a collaboration project. I saw that Kiva.org last year, but could never figure out how to fit it in, or make it work with just 3rd grade. I'll look again at these resources. What are you thinking about for a timeline?
Ok, now I see what on Earth Kiva club is from the friendship bracelet post. Thought I'd just forgotten. ;) I love the concept. If we could "dig deeper" and unwrap the whole thing, I'd love it!
